Do I need to be licensed or certified to qualify for insurance under your program?

No. Our Professional Liability coverage form includes a broad definition of professional services which includes any service that involves specialized education, knowledge, labor, judgment and skill that is predominately mental or intellectual. This coverage is not limited to Professionals who have a degree or license.

Do I need to be a member of a recognized organization or association to qualify for coverage under your program?

No. Our program is not limited to members of any organization or association.

Is coverage limited to services I provide at my office or a designated location?

Our Professional Liability is not location specific. Therefore, you are covered for your services anywhere within the continental United States.

Can I include a municipal organization or similar agency as an additional insured if necessary?

Yes. Additional Insureds for Professional Liability, General Liability and Abuse & Molestation are automatically included at no additional charge when required by written contract. This includes your landlord.

What limits of liability do you offer?

The Professional and General Liability limits are $1,000,000 per occurrence/$3,000,000 aggregate. Higher limits are available. Abuse or molestation coverage is included with $100,000. Each Act of Abuse/$100,000 aggregate, which includes expenses outside limits. Higher limits are also available, subject to underwriter review.

What types of Professionals are eligible for your program?

Our program offers coverage to a broad list of eligible Professionals that includes Addiction Counselors, Mental & Behavioral Health Professionals, Social Workers, Peer Recovery Support Specialists, Clinical Supervisors, Psychologists, Nutritionist and Dieticians, Physical Therapists and Students in any of these fields.

What type of coverage form do you offer?

Professional and General Liability policies are written on an Occurrence basis. An occurrence liability policy provides insurance coverage for an injury or damage that occurs during the policy period, regardless when the claim is reported. In the event, that the policy is not renewed, there is no additional tail coverage required to pickup prior claims. Also, the premiums will typically not vary year by year, when no changes have occurred. Unlike a claims made form, where premiums will increase over a five year period, in addition to the added cost to purchase tail coverage in the event your coverage lapses.

Who is the Insurance carrier for your program?

Our Behavioral Health Program is written through Great American Insurance Group. Great American Insurance Group has been servicing the public for over 100 years and is currently rated “A+” (Superior) by A.M. Best and has always received an “A” (Excellent) or higher rating from A.M. Best Company. Their Specialty Human Services Division is an established leader in the Human and Social Services area. They understand the diverse insurance needs of organizations and offer one of the most comprehensive product selections available in the marketplace.

Is there coverage to protect me if someone files a complaint against me?

Yes. The Professional policy provides Administrative Defense Expense and HIPAA Notification Costs for $25,000/$50,000 of coverage which reimburses for any fines or penalties and any claims of expense you incur.

Am I covered for any services I may provide as part of a Peer Review Board?

Yes. Peer Review Services are included if you are a member of any board or committee of any organization.

Is there a discount if I am only working part time?

Yes. We offer competitive, reduced part time rates for individuals working less than 16 hours.

How do I apply for insurance through your program?

Simply click on the link for “Apply Now.” Individuals will be taken directly to our online application. Facilities will have the application automatically downloaded. Facilities applications should be submitted via email at vanwagnerinsurance@sterlingrisk.com.

Current Policyholders

How do I change my address on my policy?

Any change of address requests should be made via email. Please provide your name and client code along with new address and send the email to vanwagnerinsurance@sterlingrisk.com.

How do I obtain a certificate of insurance or face sheet?

Any requests for a face sheet or additional insured certificate should be sent to request@vanwagnerinsurance.com. If an additional insured certificate is needed, please provide the name and address of how the certificate holder needs to be listed.

I did not renew my policy in time. Can the policy be reinstated?

If it has been less than 60 days since the expiration date of the policy, we are able to reinstate the policy. Please call 800-735-1588 or email us at vanwagnerinsurance@sterlingrisk.com. You will need to provide payment by credit card and sign and return a representation of no known losses (which we will provide to you). If your policy is expired more than 60 days, you will need to reapply for a new policy at www.vanwagnergroup.com.

How do I cancel my policy?

All requests for cancelling a policy require a written request. Please send an email to vanwagnerinsurance@sterlingrisk.com.

Can I add my company name to my policy?

Your current policy will cover your LLC and you as an individual. As long as you have no employees, we can include your LLC to your policy. To request your company name to be added to the policy, send a request to vanwagnerinsurance@sterlingrisk.com. Please provide your company name and confirm that there are no employees.

I have expanded and now have employees and/or contracted employees. Will my policy cover them?

No, your current policy only covers you as an individual. In order to insure your company with employees, you will need to apply for a corporate policy. Please complete our application and send it to vanwagnerinsurance@sterlingrisk.com. One of our underwriters will then review the application and get in touch with you.
